Series Three

My Series Three Album is a full colour, 4 x 6 laminated and bound booklet of photos showing the original elevators and their histories.  The Series Three elevators are from the Alberta locations of Airdrie, Balzac, Bentley, Bowden, Carstairs, Clive, Crossfield, Didsbury, Innisfail, Joffre, Lacombe, Olds, Penhold, Ponoka, Red Deer, Rimbey, and Sylvan Lake.

It will take a few moments to load the pictures.  While you are waiting, please scroll down to read the history of Innisfail's grain elevators.  These elevators appear on the cover of the Series Three booklet.

Innisfail

The first elevator in Innisfail was built by the Alberta Pacific Elevator Co. between 1907 - 1911.  Federal Grain took the elevator over in 1967 and in 1972 the Alberta Wheat Pool bought out Federal Grain and made the elevator AWP#3.  In 1996 this elevator closed.

The second new elevator was built in 1920 by the UGG. It ran as UGG #1 until it shut down in 1986.

The third new elevator was built in 1921 by the N. Bawlf Elevator Co.  In 1942 H.J. Pidgeon took over from N. Bawlf.  Between 1947-1950 Canada Packers Ltd. bought out H.J. Pidgeon and ran the facility until it closed in 1966.

The fourth new elevator was built in 1922 by Maple Leaf Milling Co. Ltd.  Pioneer Grain took over the first elevator in 1927.  Between 1936-1940 the Pioneer either built a new elevator or had a major upgrade.  This elevator stood until the spring of 2000 when it was demolished.

The fifth new elevator was built in 1926 by the National Elevator Co. Ltd.  The elevator was taken over by Cargill Grain in the 1974-1975 crop year.  It shut down in 1983.

The sixth new elevator was built in 1927 by the Province Elevator Co.  Between 1936-1939 the Reliance Grain Co. took control.  United Grain Growers bought Reliance out in the 1948-49 crop year and the elevator became the UGG #2.  This elevator shut down in 1995.

The seventh new elevator was built by Alberta Pool Elevators in 1928.  The name was changed to the Alberta Wheat Pool in 1930.  In 1970 the AWP twinned the elevator so that they became AWP #1 and AWP #2.  In 1987 the AWP #1 shut down and in 1998-99 the AWP #2 shut down.

The ninth new elevator was built in 1951 by Midland & Pacific Grain Corp.  In 1954 UGG took it over and it became the UGG #3.  It closed in 1995.

The next new facility was built by Neilson Grain about 1986.  They shut down after only a short time.  In 1996 Northern Lite Canola Inc. started up and closed in the 1997-98 crop year.  Louis Dreyfus took over the facility in late 1998.  This facility is now closed.

This is the only elevator standing in the town of Innisfail.
