The
Canadian Northern Society is a registered charity dedicated to providing
community service through heritage preservation and tourism development. The
Society maintains a unique collection of historic railway depots, grain
elevators, and park sites at Camrose, Meeting Creek, Donalda and Big Valley,
Alberta. The Society has also developed an outdoor historical interpretive
center from the remnants of the former Canadian Northern Railway locomotive
shop facility located at Big Valley. The Society has also taken an active
role in railway depot preservation projects in the communities of Rowley,
Viking and Hanna Alberta.
The
“Canadian Railway Hall of Fame” is a new project of the Canadian
Northern Society and is currently under development. The Hall of Fame will
honour people, communities, equipment, and structures that have made a
significant contribution to the Canadian Railway industry. The “Canadian
Railway Hall of Fame” will be located at the Historic Village of Big
Valley, Alberta.
