  • The Canadian Northern Society is a registered charity dedicated to providing community service through heritage preservation and tourism development. The Society maintains a unique collection of historic railway depots, grain elevators, and park sites at Camrose, Meeting Creek, Donalda and Big Valley, Alberta. The Society has also developed an outdoor historical interpretive center from the remnants of the former Canadian Northern Railway locomotive shop facility located at Big Valley. The Society has also taken an active role in railway depot preservation projects in the communities of Rowley, Viking and Hanna Alberta.

    The “Canadian Railway Hall of Fame” is a new project of the Canadian Northern Society and is currently under development. The Hall of Fame will honour people, communities, equipment, and structures that have made a significant contribution to the Canadian Railway industry. The “Canadian Railway Hall of Fame” will be located at the Historic Village of Big Valley, Alberta.

    How to get involved with the Canadian Northern Society…..

    We welcome new members and volunteers to join us in our efforts in community service and heritage preservation. We also welcome any contributions. Donations of cash, material and artifacts are tax-creditable.
