It’s Not Important
By
Arlyne Tydeman Dewar

It’s not important some might say
“An elevator fell today”
Brought down with loud and crashing sound
It now lies shattered on the ground.
There’s sadness in its coming down
This landmark known to every town
Unneeded old….We know its years
We feel its soul and taste our tears.
It’s not important some might say
Does it not matter that today
The Prairie where those giants stood
Is losing something that was good?
This land, as one by one they fall
Won’t seem the same to us at all.
It IS important when we say
“An elevator died today.”
