Buried Treasures
The “Buried Treasures” segment of my
website will feature an Ever Changing Collection of treasured photos
and stories from generous individuals that wish to share their memories with
us. If you wish to be included in this revolving history, feel free to
contact me via email. Any photos sent to me will be scanned and returned promptly.
I would like to dedicate this page to all the
elevator agents across the Prairies that did so much more through the years
than just buy grain. They were the farmer’s friend and advisor, they
volunteered in the community and they stood beside us during the good times
and the bad. Theirs was not just a job, it was a way of life. Every farmer
has a story of how his agent managed to mix off a tough load of grain to
provide a better grade or how he magically found room in a “plugged
elevator” for that one last load. We remember how he opened the elevator
early in the morning and kept it open late at night to accommodate the
farmers needs. It was a partnership that resulted in exceptional loyalty by
the farmer to whichever company he chose to deal with. Unfortunately, like
so many other things in life, we don’t truly appreciate what we have until
we lose it.
