Grain Elevator Photos & History of
The Disappearing Small Town Elevator

Join me on a picturesque journey into the past and for awhile we can relive the precious moments when the prairie sentinels stood out tall and proud on the horizon, a corner stone for each and every community they graced.

The Prairie Grain Elevators

Poem By Teresa Diegel

Those elevators stand like a sentinel
Over our small town,
They will remain a part of our history
Long after they are torn down.
When our prairie elevator is added to the demolishing list,
There will be plenty there to see the flying debris
To see our pioneers lose
Yet another piece of history.
So many have disappeared,
And we stand to lose so many more
Because with modern times
They find better ways our grain to store.
Some of those prairie elevators
Have stood there longer than grandpa and me,
It's a welcome sign on the horizon
For the name of the next town is easy to see.
Discussing the prices of grain
While pacing the old wooden floor,
The prairie grain elevator
One day will be no more.
